ESTABLISHMENT OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS INFORMATION CENTER

 

To support students and researchers with an interest in human rights issues, the establishment of a specialized center for human rights documents and information was conceived as a priority. In this context, the Center was put in place and began operating on 24 Mehr, 1378 (15 October 1999), on the fourth floor of Building No 2, Faculty of Law and Political Science, at the University of Tehran. Following the inauguration of the Center for Human Rights Studies, the Information department was moved to the new location on 26.10.1379 Currently, the Information department comprises two divisions as follows:

 

A.    LIBRARY

The library started out with over 300 volumes of specialized books mainly on human rights area, and at present contains more than 700 volumes. In addition, it keeps around 11 titles of journals and publications on the human rights field as follows:

The library also carries UN documents and instruments on human rights. It provides free of change services to scholars, researchers and people interested in human rights issues.

 

B.    COMPUTER CENTER

With six machines, the division is connected to the internet through leased line and via the Statistical and Informatics Center of University of Tehran. Also available are peripheral hardware such as printers and scanners. The division provides really access to on-line information. Ms. Monavvar Mirzaie is in charge of department.
